Roof Cleaning in Kilkenny

A moss-covered roof isn’t just an eyesore — it holds moisture against tiles and slates, lifts edges, blocks gutters and shortens the roof’s working life.

We safely remove moss, algae and lichen from roofs across County Kilkenny using a soft-wash method and biocide treatment that gets results without damaging the roof. Roof cleans start at €350, take half a day to a full day, and come with a free quote within 24 hours.

Why we use soft-washing, not high-pressure blasting

High-pressure washing strips the protective glaze off concrete tiles, lifts felt and pulls slates loose. It’s the single most common cause of roofs needing replacement years before they should. We don’t do it.

Instead, we use a soft-wash method: low-pressure application of a biocide that kills moss, algae and lichen at the root. Loose debris is gently brushed and rinsed off, and the biocide continues to work in the surface for months — so re-growth is far slower than after a pressure blast.

How long does it take?

Most domestic roofs are done in a single day. Larger or steeper roofs may extend to a second day. The biocide continues to work in the roof surface for 6–12 weeks after we leave — so the roof actually keeps getting cleaner for weeks once we’ve finished.

How often should you clean a roof?

Most Kilkenny roofs benefit from a clean every 3–5 years, plus an optional maintenance biocide treatment in between. Roofs shaded by trees or facing north tend to moss up faster than south-facing ones.

Areas we cover

Frequently asked questions

Will it damage my roof tiles or slates?

No — that’s the whole point of the soft-wash method. We never use high pressure on a roof. The biocide does the work; the chemical kills the moss back at the root and rain washes the dead growth away over the following weeks.

Will the moss come straight back?

Not straight away. A professional biocide treatment typically gives you 3–5 years before any noticeable re-growth, and we offer a discounted maintenance application to extend that further.

Do you clean the gutters at the same time?

Yes — clearing moss debris from the gutters is included in every roof clean. We’ll flag it separately if your gutters need a full vacuum clean on top.

Is it safe? Do you have insurance?

Yes. Public liability cover is in place. We use fall-protection equipment, work from roof ladders or scaffold towers where needed, and never compromise on safety to save time.

Can you paint or recoat the roof afterwards?

Roof painting is a separate service we can quote for once the roof is clean and dry. We’ll be straight with you about whether painting is worth doing for your roof type — for some, it isn’t.
